I have three distinct passions which I feel overlap and/or complement each other nicely; Visual Media Arts, ICT and Outdoors Pursuits.
Born and raised in the UK, London I loved the city but also loved getting away to the country side, camping, walking when ever possible. This has always been my release, my way to clear my mind, forget the day to day and find balance. At that time I studied Art, Product Design, Maths and Computing and when deciding where to go next pursued Computer Science at Swansea University. After many hours programming in a darkened room I was craving a different outlet for my creativity. |
I started learning web design, HTML, CSS, PHP, Java script and Photoshop. I wanted to know how to make my graphics, images and design look more professional. I was hooked, the mixture of visual creativity and technical know how was a perfect combination. I then progressed to moving image firstly live action, then animation, next came special effects and motion graphic, then onto 3D work, live production, multi-camera production. And now official I'm a jack of all trades.
I seem to have done a full loop, now editing for hours in a darkened room - which called for balance. This came from totally unplugging and hiking off in to hills, climbing, camping, kayaking. I was now teaching media at college level, specialising in the technical side of media and ICT to KS3. I wanted to share my passion for the outdoors with the students I was then working with and became a Mountain Leader, Climbing Instructor and a Kayaking Instructor. I lead several residential programs and started coordinating trips for others schools in the borough as well as youth groups. This lead me to becoming an Expedition Leader taking students on longer trips to far away destinations.
I believe ICT is a fantastic tool for opening new pathways to access exciting content with ease. These same pathways have opened new opportunities for advertising and feel that everyone needs a broader understanding of the media that bombards us every day in modern life and how this can changes our perceptions. I believe with all this technology we need to find a balance within ourselves and a deeper connection with our natural environment is key. What is healthy for us is also heathy for the planet.
I now split my time between all three areas Visual Media Arts, ICT and Outdoors Pursuits ever trying to find a balance.
